MLA 2006

lacking any official business at MLA this year, i rented a car and drove up friday with plenty of time to hit princeton record exchange before going to the MLA off-site reading at the philadelphia art alliance just off rittenhouse square. the lovely building had a gallery that was a bit cramped when filled with nearly 60 readers and however many attendees (begging the question of who goes only to listen? i did two years ago in philly.) alabama press sponsored the event, offered the wine bar and the cheese trays. bob pereleman opened and closed the proceedings. everyone pretty much kept to within their allotted two minutes.

the entire proceedings were recorded and are available in three MP3 files from miporadio. i start at about 17:55 minutes into part 3. among the many fine readers and poems the standouts/revelations for me (tho my attentions were less than full) were sasha steensen, leevi lehto, caroline bergvall, linda russo and nick monfort. was also great to visit, always all-too briefly, with bill and lisa, linda, christian, juliana, ron, patrick, brent, mark, caroline, tyrone and jeffrey.
